Location: Georgia, USA
Project Scope: Shallow Water Survey
Date: June 2010
The total combined area surveyed for this project was approximately 455,000 square feet. The lagoon was lined with a single smooth 60 mil HDPE geomembrane over a prepared subgrade. There was approximately 24-inches of water at the time of the survey. Nineteen vent pipes were constructed in the lagoon to exhaust rising gases impinging on the bottom of the geomembrane.
The entire submerged geomembrane was systematically scanned by two LLSI technicians using a custom designed probe. Seven leaks were found in the geomembrane of the lagoon. The located leaks were marked with weighted bags connected to floats on a string line. The location of the leaks were also referenced to measurement marks placed on the side slope above the water line.
